We all have those times when life gets, well, a little more wild and our health habits start to slide down the drain. What can we do?? Between a crazy work schedule, social events & family drama and there just isn’t enough hours in the day to make cooking every night a priority, or a daily workout even logical.
Trust me, I know the feeling all too well.
And here’s the thing… this happens WAY more frequently than we ever expect. There is ALWAYS something that will get in the way. Yeah, there are fluctuations and some weeks when life goes to hell in a hand basket (or whatever that phrase is…) but overall most weeks we end up having a running to-do list that just keeps growing, and time slips away! We have to make it a choice every day where our priorities lie.
No, this is NOT me saying that your daily sweat sesh has to always be number one. But, maybe it should be higher in the priority list more days than not!
Take a beat to look at the week ahead of you, and anticipate the crazy.
Understand that some things WILL come out differently than planned and allow yourself some wiggle room! Set your priorities for every day ahead of time to actively choose what will be best for you in the long run.
When we make these decisions day-of, we often will put ourselves and our health habits on the back burner in order to make room for whatever other responsibilities arise. It is all too easy to think it’s just a one time sacrifice, then keep on repeating that mistake week after week.
Why is that ok??
Taking care of ourselves and putting time into those habits that make us feel good, actually helps us put MORE in to the other areas of our life! By cheating yourself of these life enriching habits in order to do something else, we end up only being able to half ass the other tasks that come up. We need to self care in order to put the best versions of ourselves back out there to tackle whatever else life throws our way.
So, how do we manage those wild times?
Take a moment on Sunday nights to look forward to the week to come. This is a part of my weekly ‘reset’ and helps get me mentally prepared for starting fresh on Monday! Planning out one or two days to rest, as well as days that I’m going to be more devoted to getting a good workout and meal prep in, helps me to see the gaps in my schedule that will allow for those extra tasks that pop up.
Just remember, don’t let those wild weeks control you! There will ALWAYS be an excuse, or something else you could be doing. A healthy lifestyle is built in those moments of choosing yourself over the craziness.
